As Gwyneth Paltrow who played Catherine in the stage version of this play, so her portrayal of Catherine with her volatile moods and her struggle to gain confidence in her talent is very convincing and realistic. The film is more of a heavy drama that requires a rapt attention and concentration on the part of the audience. Maddenââ¬â¢s approach towards costume and set is not that deft. He fails to exploit the scattered settings at Robertââ¬â¢s home, with bits of paper spread around, and unattended dirty dishes, to throw light on the scattered and disturbed lives of the characters in the story. Still, there are many meaningful scenes in the story that bring out the darkly comical mindset of the characters. Planning an IT Infrastructure Audit for Compliance Term Paper - 1
Planning an IT Infrastructure Audit for Compliance - Term Paper Example With such an evaluation, the company will be able to streamline the inter-company communication effectiveness and departmental communications (Newsom & Haynes, J. 2014. P66). Planning, the IT audit, entails gathering information to formulate an audit plan and to gain insight of the available internal control structure of the IT. The Planning and IT infrastructure audit is a valuable practice to local and global organizations. The audit planning process directly affects the quality of the outcome. A proper plan ensures that resources are focused on the right areas and that potential problems are identified early. A successful audit first outlines whatââ¬â¢s supposed to be achieved as well as what procedures will be followed and the required resources to carry out the procedures. The information to be collected is regulatory statutes, inherent risk assessment, recent financial information, and past audit results. Besides the auditors will require to avail information such as control procedures, equate total risks, control risk assessment, and control environment to gain an understanding of the present internal control structure. With all this prior audit information, auditors will be in a position to formulate a useful audit plan. The audit plan must details the time and cost required to execute IT infrast ructure audit. Anne Moodys Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay -- Mississippi Age Com
Anne Moody's Coming of Age in Mississippi Coming of Age in Mississippi is the amazing story of Anne Moody's unbreakable spirit and character throughout the first twenty-three years of her life. Time and time again she speaks of unthinkable odds and conditions and how she manages to keep excelling in her aspirations, yet she ends the book with a tone of hesitation, fear, and skepticism. While she continually fought the tide of society and her elders, suddenly in the end she is speaking as if it all may have been for not. It doesn?t take a literary genius nor a psychology major to figure out why. With all that was stacked against her cause, time and time again, it is easy to see why she would doubt the future of the civil rights movement in 1964 as she rode that Greyhound bus to Washington once again. The events that had occurred to her up to the point of the end of the book could clearly have disheartened anyone. Throughout the novel Moody shows displeasure with her family and fellow black citizens for simply accepting the circumstances and the position in which they lived. Multiple times she refers to the elder blacks as brainwashed by Mr. Charlie, referring to the white plantation owners. She condemns how anytime something clearly unacceptable happens, the black community hushes itself and moves along about their business. This is evident even when she is fourteen years old and just entering high school. Upon the murder of Emmett Till, she questions why was he murdered and what was going to be done about it. Her mother responds to her questions with hostility, and this upsets her more. She wonders why she should remain quite about the incident, pretending she doesn?t know. After learning that Emmett was murdered because he got out of line with a white woman, she questions this rationale. Does that make it OK to murder him? How were his actions any different from how young white me n treated black women? To ask these questions at this point in time were unthinkable to her mother and most anyone else she associated with. She was just a young black girl and should keep her concerns to herself. Moody clearly portrays herself as someone unwilling to accept society in its condition from a very early age, which obviously foreshadows her involvement in the activist?s community. I would argue that the mentality of African-Americans to... ...ndmother would not let her in her house for fear that she might cause trouble! At her mother?s birthday party no one would really speak with her, afraid of what she might say. While her sister and younger brother still respected her, to be shunned by the majority of ones own family would have to be a very traumatic experience. Seriously, how much can one person take on a mission and constantly have little or no success and maintain a positive outlook? Throughout the reading I was amazed and impressed with Moody?s determination and drive. I am thankful that I was not placed in her shoes, because I am not sure that I could have maintained her level of courage or optimism. I feel she has the right to be somewhat questionable towards the end of the book, if not for her own experiences, to encourage anyone who reads her book to never give up on one?s own dreams. With all her doubts, look at all that has been accomplished in the area of civil rights, and what might never have been if not for people like Anne Moody. Itunes Music Pricing
Josefina Anorga Carlos Albizu University iTunes Music Pricing Adopting a variable pricing policy might increase the sales revenue of Appleââ¬â¢s Music Store. Pricing the more popular songs at a higher price and the less popular ones at a lesser rate would generate higher sales for the lesser popular ones. Thus making up for the slight drop in sales of expensive tracks and ultimately working towards overall increased revenues. Although most songs with a higher price point experienced nearly 21 % drop in sales, the 29 % increase in price made up for the loss. Moreover, sales for the top 40 songs have a relatively inelastic demand and are expected to be unaffected by the price rise. The customers of these popular songs are price-insensitive and hence make a greater contribution to the increased revenues since the optimal price can be marked at a value much higher than the marginal cost. With the tiered pricing structure, iTunes Music Store would also be able to tackle the increasing c ompetition by the major wireless companies offering downloadable music to the cell phone subscribers.Variable pricing intelligently supports the maximized returns by allowing the company to adjust the value of per-unit prices to increase revenues and encourage the potential customers to be allured by the lowered prices of specific tracks. Appleââ¬â¢s iTunes Music Store might adopt other strategies such as Product Bundle Pricing strategy to make a bundle of different songs (both popular and less popular tracks) and sell them at reduced prices. This will not only help the sales of the slow moving sound tracks, but also work as a revenue generator by way of alluring potential consumers. The bundling strategy will help in increasing profits by extracting additional consumer surplus. Another strategy that the company may adopt is the captive pricing policy. This approach will require the company to charge higher prices for the songs since they can only be downloaded exclusively on the iPod. This will ensure higher revenue from the existing customer downloads, however the company might not be able to increase the iPod sales following this pricing policy. The company may implement promotional pricing strategies such as offering some specific songs at discounted prices along with the purchase of the new iPods. This would not only boost the sales of the iPods, it would also attract the customers to buy the usually expensive songs at discounted rates. This would directly promote the music sales thus increasing revenues. While the variable pricing strategy is seen as way to increase revenue, the sophisticated pricing structure poses high risks and potential costs to the company. With the advent of the information technology and the rise in the unauthorized file swapping networks, the company is already at a high risk of losing consumers, who can easily download pirated music free of cost. Moreover, since a major share (about $0. 70) of the revenue per song goes to the re cord companies that have the right to the songs and the iTunes Music Store gets a very small share of the profit from the downloaded music, the company cannot afford to lose profits from the sales of iPods. A complicated pricing structure poses a great risk of losing the customers to other companies, which will adversely affect the sales of the iPods also. With the music companies tying up with other competitors such as Amazon. om, who sell the music catalogs wrapped in digital rights management software, implementing the complicated pricing, would only mean losing the sales and promoting the unethical practice of unauthorized free downloads. Appleââ¬â¢s pricing objective of flat pricing is not directed at maximizing revenues due to the sale of downloaded music. The company is enticed to sell the downloaded music at low prices in order to promote the sale of iPods. Apple follows a profit maximizing policy for the iPods revenue stream and so follows a stable policy for the attract ing the customers by a flat price for the downloaded music. However, the record companies are only concerned about maximizing revenues from the downloaded music and they are not concerned about the revenue from the sale of iPod. The iTunes Music store is a service that Apple offers to its consumers who wish to buy the third party music and audio books over the internet. Moreover, with no subscription fee and broad range of personal rights being offered with the music content, including playing the music on an unlimited number of iPods, Apple is clearly not focused at generating increased revenues through music downloads (Forms 10-K).Appleââ¬â¢s ability to control the pricing of downloaded music is likely to change in the future. Third party content providers require Apple to provide variable pricing policy along with adequate security mechanism. If the company continues to focus on revenue maximization of iPod hardware sales considering the music content download as a peripheral b usiness activity, the recording companies might get agitated due to the absence in increased revenues. The company might lose its leverage over music companies owing to the increasing competition. With other companies like Amazon ready to sell the music with embedded security features, the music companies are likely to collaborate with companies thus adversely affecting iTunes Music store business.References Forms 10-K, United States Securities and Exchange Commission: Apple Computer, Inc. Dr. Martin Luther King s Leadership - 875 Words
Introduction The word leadership brings to mind a variety of thought processes. It evokes memories of some of the great leaders of the past. Sir Winston Churchill who led the British people admirably with great fortitude against the Nazi onslaught. George Washington who fought against the British colonial empire for independence of the Americans. Abraham Lincoln who fought for abolition of slavery and human bondage. Dr. Martin Luther King who fought for equal civil rights for his people. Nelson Mandela who fought courageously for abolition of Apartheid. Mahatma Gandhi who through his unconventional methods of peace, non- cooperation and non- violence forced the British to grant independence to India. All these men exemplified key leadership skills in performing their duties and at the same time achieved success in their endeavors. The American Daycare Micro Culture Has Changed Our Culture...
According to psychology human beings do not develop long term memory until the ages of 3-4. I however remember specifically only picture moments from those years. I know that during that age I was attending Top Kids Academy an American daycare owned and principled by my mother Roselene Guex. The very few glimpse and memories that I have are a dodgeball hitting me in the face and riding a tricycle down a hallway. The things I have learned from that daycare however, still stay with me till this day including how to write, read, and even know words of English. Daycares are nonexistent in many countries including in Haiti even frowned upon. So my main question coming into this how the American daycare micro culture has shape our cultureâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦So what I decided to do to start off this project is I went in to interview my mom and ask her a few simple one of these questions was how you deal with the different diversity that comes into her daycare. She replied saying ââ¬Å" black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Muslim , Christian , Atheist we donââ¬â¢t discriminate we treat everyone the same it does not affect the teaching whatsoever, the only time it effects our program is for example when a Muslim parent ask that we not serve chicken to their child and we respect their wish.â⬠Another question that I asked was how you decide what food to cook for your students. She replied saying ââ¬Å"Based on the health pyramid which is a series of 5 levels required by the department of nutrition.â⬠Looking deeper into this I found that this health pyramid was created by the Harvard school of health and the 5 levels include daily exercise as the first, vegetables with fruits, healthy fats and oils, and whole grains for the second level, Nuts, seeds, beans, tofu, fish, poultry, and eggs for the third level, Dairy supplements for the fourth level, and meat,, potatoes, salt, and sugar for the fifth and final level. Another question I raised was how Top Kids ties in to their curriculum of teaching everyone to respect the differences in culture and race. She replied saying ââ¬Å"that the teachers are to remind children of the golden ruleâ⬠which is treat others how you would like to be treated. A common and straightforward way that proves to be very

The Reality of Rape Essay - 1651 Words
Running head: THE REALITY OF RAPE nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Rape is a crime of violence and aggression that not only hurts a victim for the moment, but it shatters her entire life. According to the Britannica Encyclopedia, rape is defined as ââ¬Å"any kind of unlawful sexual activity, usually sexual intercourse, carried out forcibly or under threat of injury and against the will of the victim.â⬠This definition has been redefined to cover same-sex attacks and attacks against those who are incapable of valid consent, including persons who are mentally ill, intoxicated, drugged, etc. (rape). Because rape crimes affect all races, cultures, ages, and economical classes, it is difficult to create concrete research on the topic because of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This defense is one of the many rape myths that many people believe are true. The fact is that in many incidences of rape, the perpetrator will threaten the victim with some sort of weapon, including threatening to beat her. Any logical woman realize s that a rapist is usually not a murderer, and if she cooperates, she will be let go with only the images and pain of the horrible attack. In fact, less than two percent of murders in the U.S. involved rape or any other sexual assault (Greenfield). In rape situations, the victim has lost control over what may happen to her life and her body; she is victimized and over-powered. According to a study done by the U.S. Department of Justice, ââ¬Å"the closer the relationship between the female victim and the offender, the greater the likelihood that the police would not be told about the rape or sexual assaultâ⬠(Rennison). The probable reason for this is related to a rape myth that states that most rapes are committed by strangers; it isnââ¬â¢t rape if the victim and perpetrator knew each other (Office on Violence Against Women). Perhaps this is ignorance on the victimââ¬â¢s part because she believes that it isnââ¬â¢t rape if it was by her spouse, boyfriend, friend, or acquaintance.
